The Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility Awards were established in 2004 to recognise the work being carried out by Irish and multinational companies to improve the lives of their employees and to enhance the civic environment in which they operate. This is a unique competition that offers the business community a chance to promote their efforts in CSR and gain recognition for best practice. The awards are presented in a variety of categories covering all areas of CSR.

Microsoft Ireland has won the Outstanding Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award at the 2011 Chambers Ireland CSR Awards, held in Dublin last night (15/09/11). The judging panel selected Microsoft Ireland for the sustained excellence of their CSR programmes.

The eighth annual Awards were partnered by Business in the Community Ireland, run in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government and kindly sponsored by arvato Finance. Each winner was presented with a specially commissioned trophy designed by Tipperary Crystal from their Louise Kennedy range.

Speaking at the event, Ian Talbot, Chambers Ireland Chief Executive said, “This evening’s event and the individual efforts by each of the companies here tonight illustrate the positive work that is still taking place. Ireland has an opportunity to step out as a leader in the area of CSR, to show our commitment to the world in which we operate and to increase our credibility as a first-class place in which to do business.”

Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government, Phil Hogan T.D. continued, “I would like to offer my congratulations to all of tonight’s winners. My Department is delighted to support the recognition of CSR work being carried out in Ireland. I am truly encouraged that despite economic pressures, companies in Ireland are continuing to contribute to society by conducting business in a fair manner and embracing responsibility for social and environmental issues. The partnerships being forged between the business community and wider society reaffirms the commitment by many businesses to contribute to economic development while also integrating consideration for the community in their business operations.”

Una Mullarkey, General Manager, arvato Finance added, “It is always inspiring to be in the company of organisations focused on giving something back to the community they operate in. Corporate citizenship is deeply rooted in the arvato and Bertelsmann culture with the ambition to help create a better society. On the 15th anniversary of our start-up of operations in Ireland, arvato Finance is proud to sponsor these important awards and congratulates everyone involved.”

Tina Roche, Chief Executive of Business in the Community Ireland concluded, “Congratulations to all the great companies who won awards and indeed all the nominees. Irish business needs to rebuild its reputation both at home and abroad so awards like these shine a light on the positive impacts companies can make. We really are seeing businesses realising that sustainable and responsible business practices make good business sense and can help with their competitive advantage so we would encourage more and more companies to enter the awards in the years to come.”
